about

A sonic assault in four parts by Norwegian heavy sound entities MoE and Lasse Marhaug. Recorded via a series of live/studio sessions over 2016-2018 and arranged/produced by Marhaug in his studio in Bodø, Capsaicin explores the fissures left by minimalist drone metal. Those places not yet stepped on, where strange sound textures produced by DIY machines, low frequencies and electromagnetic transductions fit. The musicians take their mutual passion for monolithic sound blocks to new extremes. The piece starts with a lone sludge bass, and as guitar, percussion and electronics join respectively, the piece slowly builds to a swirling mass of frequencies that keep mutating throughout its 78 minute duration. Plateaus are established, explored and abandoned. Capsaicin does not settle into the comfort of drones. This is not easy listening.
